The panel nominating Oscar nominees has finally spoken about the ongoing scandal dubbed #OscarsSoWhite. The controversy was sparked by the fact that not a single black actor was shortlisted for the main categories, with the likes of Ice Cube and Lupita Nyong’o stating their displeasure about the issue. The main reason why there was not a single black nominee? The folks who head the section team are between 40 and 60 years old and thus do not watch films like “Straight Outta Compton” which tend to appeal to the younger masses.
“Nobody can accuse the Academy of being racist — but they can be accused of being out of touch with the younger generation,” one of the panel members told Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview.
There you have it, they admitted that they didn’t even watch most of the “Black” films, which would have been incredible contenders in this year’s Oscars.

“Straight Outta Compton is a masterpiece, probably the best biopic since Amadeus — but many if not most of the Academy can’t fathom songs like ‘F**k the Police.’ I know many members who wouldn’t even see the film because it represented a culture that they detest or, more accurately, they assume they detest.” he added.
