4 Surprising Ways The Music You Listen To Affects You

If you are a music addict like me, you’ll surely relate to this. I loooove music. The first thing I do in the morning is to listen to music before I step out of bed. I do it as I prepare breakfast and even in the shower!

Whether you love listening to ballads (like Shontelle’s “Impossible”) or South African house, there’s always a noticeable effect that music has on you. It’s the reason why we put on our earphones once we are in a matatu, at the airport waiting lounge, while studying among many other occasions.

In case you did not know, music can make you feel melancholic or happy. It can inspire you to achieve your dreams or splash self-pity on your face. It can help you move on from a heartbreak or pass a job interview.

Here are the four interesting things that music does to you:

1. Improves mental health

This is how this one works. Let’s say you opted to take a guitar lesson just for fun a few months ago. Well, that’s a great choice you made. Studies conducted in the past show that children who take a musical instrument lesson for upto 3 years are better in class than those who did not. Well, there’s a reason to that; learning to play an instrument improves our motor and reasoning skills. That’s not only in kids but also in adults.

2. Makes going to the gym fun

Ever wondered why there’s 80’s or 90’s disco music at the gym? Some places even have drum and bass music. This is because the more the beats per minute in a song, the more you are motivated by it. That’s why you’ll rarely find a workout space playing hip hop music. It’s scientifically proven. So, if you’d love to get to the market as fast as possible, listen to fast playing music.

Number 4 is the most surprising! >>
