KOROGOCHO HAKUNA HURUMA! What They Did To This Petite Radio Presenter Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

Former Kenyan First Lady Lucy Kibaki once said “Muthaiga sio Korogocho” and true to her words, kweli Koch sio Muthaiga. Being one of the biggest informal settlements (slum) in Kenya, Korogocho is known for many cases of violent crime, mostly executed by jobless youths, whose day job entails chilling out at the “base” chewing khat and most probably, plotting their next mission.

Once upon a time, Mbusi, yule kijana mpyenga mwenye mapoze, used to be among these young men. In his words though, he never involved himself with violent crime while he was still a “hustler” living in the ghetto. He “worked hard”. Very hard to make ends meet. Among the chores he used to do is to sell “supu ya kichwa” at five bob each.

But he hustled his way out of the ghetto life, first by becoming a cleaner at the Ngara-based Ghetto Radio, a station owned by former singer Maji Maji (Of the Gidi Gidi Maji Maji duo – famed for the mega hit ‘Unbwogable’). While there, he gained interest in radio, and eventually, rose to be one of its greatest presenters ever.
