The Olympics seem to have been a boon for Kenya on more than just one front. Our athletes brought glory inspite of all the drama they had to contend with (tickets goings missing, the monies allocated to them for upkeep getting squandered).
What most people missed was the fact that Kenya actually trended on American interwebs for a peculiar reason; they couldnae get enough of our national anthem. That’s right, Americans just couldn’t get enough of our national anthem!
To you and I, our national anthem might have lost it’s sheen on account of having heard it over and over again. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt.
But Omo Yankee love the Kenyan national anthem and I cannot blame them. While the Naija national anthem is also good, it isn’t as rousing as the Kenyan national anthem. This is what the Yanks had to say:
The Kenyan national anthem is probably one of the prettiest I’ve ever heard #ClosingCeremony
