A local news website reported yesterday that a ten year old girl has been sleeping outside her father’s doorstep in Kariobangi North for more than three years.
The Standard Five student at Marura Primary School had been forced to sleep outside for most nights in the last three years because she was believed to have been ” cursed”. The girl who lives with her father, Rashad Adan with her grandmother residing nearby only has a lesso that she uses as a blanket. She sleeps in her school uniform with her books lying near her. The poor girl had allegedly told a neighbor that she was contemplating jumping off the sixth floor of their building to put an end to her misery.
Reports show that while the girl’s siblings have bicycles and sleep in lush beds inside the house, the girl spends her nights in the biting cold. Similarly, while her siblings attend private schools, the girl was transferred to Marura Primary School. Concerned neighbours reported the girl’s grandmother who insulted anyone that tried to help the girl earlier which led to the grandmother’s arrest. She was released when she promised to treat the girl better. Today, following neighbours reporting the case, the girl’s father will be arraigned in court to face child neglect charges.
