How Sauti Sol Came Up With “Shake Yo Bam Bam” [Video]

Sauti Sol recently released their most recent album #LiveAndDieInAfrika with overflowing support from all over the world. The much anticipated album has award winning songs and chart toppers, one of them being “Isabella” and “Shake Yo Bam Bam.” The boy band is on the current season of Coke Studio Africa alongside their collaborators, the BET award winning Ice Prince and MTV MAMA award winning Yemi Alade.

They recently opened up about how they came up with the catchy song, whose elements include mash ups from several familiar songs.

“When you hear the album, you will notice different genres but then the element of Sauti Sol as individuals is what makes us stand out, fused in Polycarp’s guitar melodies. This is the mash up within the four of us,” says Chimano. The band has had several out-of-the-country shows this year, including performing at the Global Citizen Festival alongside Beyonce and Coldplay.

“Is there anyone who hasn’t listened to Awilo (Longomba)? The legend co-composed the song. When we wrote the song we were trying to paint a picture of the former teen jam sessions at F2. We remembered how we used to go there to dance and at that time the biggest song was Awilo’s. When we were trying to patch up those moments, we ended up mashing lingala sounds with those of Shaggy, and some other artistes from Europe,” Bien chimed in.

Their album is currently available on iTunes.

You can always catch up with Coke Studio Africa every Sundays on Citizen TV at 8 PM.
