A sad mood engulfed Riruta yesterday, after six suspected thugs among them a high school student, was lynched to death by angry residents. Felix, said to be highly intelligent, had dropped out of school due to lack of fees. Capital FM reports that he was living with a group of youth in a rented house and were said to have been engaging in criminal activities. By the time the police arrived at the scene, the suspects had been killed.

An official from a local NGO that supports street children in the area, mourned the deceased, telling Capital FM that his death is a big loss.
“Felix comes from Western Kenya and is an orphan. He was to resume studies this year,” she said. “The devil wants to steal all our investments. Why did they have to die?”

Another suspect by the name Kamau, son to a single mother, was to join high school this weekend, but was caught up in the lynching.
Some residents expressed dissatisfaction, saying that the young men should have been arrested instead.
