Top 5 Most Dangerous Places In Nairobi

A few weeks ago, Kenya’s Chief Justice Willy Mutunga sensationally claimed in an interview that mafia-like groups and cartels are running our country. Security is a concern everywhere, but in Nairobi, there are some areas which are considered more dangerous. These are places in Nairobi where you’re likely to get mugged more so if you’re a visitor.

5. Korogocho (Koch) – This is one of the largest slum neighborhoods of Nairobi and home to about 200,000 people. This area has been named as one of the most dangerous places in the city because of the number of crimes that take place there.

4. Kayole – Many young people from this area end up joining criminal gangs, most of them named after Jamaican artistes and groups. A good example is Gaza, which has been terrorizing the people of Kayole. Most of its members have been gunned down by police.

3. Dandora – To be fair, the crime rate in this area has gone down, thanks to the residents collaborating with the police in fighting gangs.

4. Kariobangi – Famously known as “Bangu”, this is where a lot of carjacking and petty crimes happen. Last year on Mpasho Investigates, we spoke to a reformed criminal from the area who told us that many young people get into crime because of unemployment.

5. Nigeria Ndogo – The little-known area in Mathare is the most dangerous place in this city. The area is controlled by drug cartels who sell drugs publicly, and apparently, not even police officers can get close to Nigeria Ndogo.
